Bandits led by Matt the Mute enter a bar and kill multiple people. Randy Bowers comes to town and is framed by Matt the Mute, who is working with the sheriff, who doesn't know that Matt is really a criminal. Matt the Mute writes out everything he wants to say. Randy escapes with the help of Sally Rogers, the niece of the dead owner of the bar. Bowers runs from the sheriff, and ends up in the cave in which the bandits have their hideout. They kidnap Sally, who escapes with the help of Bowers. Matt the Mute is killed when he enters the bar, which is filled with explosives, and the niece marries Randy.。林国生（方中信）与赵宁（周海媚）在中越战争中，曾是一对出生入死，患难与共之爱侣，后因国生申请到港定居，二人终告分手。几年后，赵宁成为名震中外之舞蹈员，随团到香港演出，因而与国生重遇。时国生正与妻何美蓉（罗慧娟）感情破裂，正办理离婚手续，心情烦闷，而赵宁亦因与常大妈在国内之联营公司经济上出现问题而大感烦恼，生、宁互相倾诉一番。 赵宁因恐公司之问题回国后会受到审判，在国生之支持下，决逃亡往外国，身为车之保镖戴保（李国麟）虽一直暗恋宁，但基于工作关係，向赵宁展开追捕。另方面，常大妈为将罪过嫁祸予赵宁，派出杀手追杀赵宁灭口。国生与赵宁身陷险境，经过重重险阻，二人爱火重燃，并终能找到船隻逃离香港，但在上船时，戴保与杀手亦寻至……。1934年旧历除夕，建筑工人王正庭因为老板扣发工钱，家里穷得没有米下锅。王妻拿了家里仅有的几件破衣服去典当行典押，典当行嫌衣裳破旧，不同意典当。他们刚刚生下一对一男一女的双胞胎，也因为没有奶水喂养，饿得哇哇直哭，一家人陷入饥寒交迫的困境。。
