大陆改革开放初期，优先发展的广东一带是内陆许多省市年轻人眼中的天堂，北方某省名叫赵家坳的小山村就有赵小云、志强等六名青年男女怀着梦想来到广东，他们希望通过打工改变自己的命运。其时纺织、玩具制造等产业是广东的发展支柱，心细手快的打工妹远比笨手拙脚的打工仔吃香，赵小云等几个姑娘很快进入某厂成为“外来妹”，志强等几个男孩则被拒之门外。 外面的世界很精彩，外面的世界很无奈。漫漫打工路令几个情如姐妹的姑娘做出不同的人生抉择：有的经不起金钱考验，走上不归路；有的与当地人结婚，留在了广东；有的感慨金窝银窝好不过自己的狗窝，又回赵家坳……其中故事最为精彩的，当属赵小云：事业上经过波折有很大成就令人感叹，她与香港老板的情感纠葛亦扣人心弦。。描写为了锻炼小提琴演奏水平，主人公小日向奏转入横滨的音乐教育名校星奏学院。她接受校长的推荐加入了全校最多音乐科学生所属的“交响乐团部”。正好交响部正为这个夏天将要举行的“全国学生音乐合赛”的室内乐部门募集参赛队员。小日向奏和她的同学们，将要和来自全国的许多强校对抗。挑战决不能输的比赛，和周围男生们认真的眼神、还有烟火大会、夏日祭奠等种种酸酸甜甜的回忆……。A group of students who are participating in a university's summer science camp are drawn into an incredible quagmire of conflicts, ranging from the relatively simple conflict between an engaging and forthright young teacher and his older manipulative colleague, to a contest pitting political correctness against free scientific inquiry.
