肥猫（郑则仕 饰）在妈妈（鲍起静 饰）撤手人寰后，遵照遗嘱去寻找早年被母亲遗弃的弟妹，茫茫人海，寻亲之路如大海捞针一般。几经寻览，他找到了己经是某医院副院长的二弟华世杰（关礼杰 饰），华仔自视清高，对突然造访的大哥产生本能的提防之心。他拒绝与大哥相认，但肥猫天性的忠厚憨直令华仔原本冷冰冰的家凭添了几分温暖。华仔平日里因自恃才高，家庭关系处理的相当糟糕，肥猫则成了化解矛盾的润滑剂。随后，他又找到了已成律师的三妹高婉容（李可妮 饰），婉容也和二哥一样，一开始摆出拒绝态度，到是小女儿烟儿（刘梦珂 饰）对这个突然出现的舅舅产生了莫名的好感......。The subtitle of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet’s first feature, from 1965, “Only Violence Helps Where Violence Reigns,” suggests the fierce political program evoked by their rigorous aesthetic. The pretext of the film, set in Cologne, is Heinrich Böll’s novel “Billiards at Half Past Nine,” which they strip down to a handful of stark events and film with a confrontational angularity akin to Bartók’s music that adorns the soundtrack. The subtlest of cues accompany the story’s complex flashbacks. The middle-aged Robert Fähmel tells a young hotel bellhop of persecutions under the Third Reich| his elderly father, Heinrich, an architect famed for a local abbey, recalls the militarism of the First World War, when his wife, Johanna, incurred trouble for insulting the Kaiser. A third-generation Fähmel is considering architecture, just as the exiled brother of Robert’s late wife, returns, only to be met by their former torturer, now a West German official taking part in a celebratory parade of war veterans. Straub and Huillet make the layers of history live in the present tense, which they judge severely. The tamped-down acting and the spare, tense visual rhetoric suggest a state of moral crisis as well as the response—as much in style as in substance—that it demands.。
