The story follows a struggling young couple chasing the American dream only to realize their worst nightmare when they discover a demonic spirit in their new home. Mammon is the biblical word for the worship of wealth, and the couple discover that getting rich can come at a hefty price.。叶亭在法国过了几年流浪生活后，重回香港，立志成为一位出色的记者，但因性格耿直和粗心大意，往往将事情弄巧反拙，也因此与其上司康子桥在工作上常起冲突，但实际上康子桥极欣赏叶亭的个性，对她渐生爱意。 一次采访途中，叶亭遇上曾阿财在街上称皇称帝，大发议论，叶亭好奇心起，遂与他攀谈，发掘写作题材，其后得知他的可怜遭遇，更希望借助新闻界的力量帮助曾阿财。 随后叶亭又偶见一少女被货车撞倒，但旋即失去伤者踪影，追查之下，得知该少女原名锺美娟，自幼随母以唱粤剧为生。美娟对唱戏本甚有天份，惜误交损友，不能自拔。其母一气病倒，恳求叶亭代为管教女儿，亭同情心起，决资助美娟学粤剧，使她重获新生。。
